Designer Jenny Boutin of Ayume Concepts led the renovation blending natural materials and layered textures in West Vancouver.

A newly renovated home in West Vancouver blends traditional architecture with bold, eclectic design, creating a space that feels lived-in rather than staged. The project, led by designer Jenny Boutin of Ayume Concepts, prioritized individuality over uniformity, weaving together natural materials, layered textures, and unexpected pops of color to craft a cohesive yet distinct identity.

The living room anchors the design with a two-tone palette dominated by pink hues, framed by a dramatic granite fireplace and decorative lighting. Vaulted ceilings soften the saturated tones, while detailed mouldings and textural finishes add depth. Boutin describes it as one of the home’s standout spaces, where architectural details raise the bold color scheme.

The kitchen underwent a full transformation to improve functionality while maintaining a refined aesthetic. Custom Swede cabinetry in Farrow & Ball French Gray pairs with Calacatta Monet stone countertops and a radius edge for a polished look. A burgundy range introduces contrast, balancing the otherwise muted tones. Nearby, the dining room adopts a lighter approach, with vaulted ceilings and an oversized pendant light to anchor the relaxed atmosphere.

Color takes center stage in other areas, including a rust-toned bar with custom millwork and fluted detailing, designed for both style and entertaining. The “blue room,” a cozy TV lounge, features high-glass Farrow & Ball paint and dentil mouldings, with the homeowners’ global art collection as the focal point. Even the powder room, unchanged in footprint, transforms into a moody, unexpected space with bronze grasscloth, black zellige tile, copper fixtures, and a tiger-striped velvet curtain.

The renovation spanned six months, with the homeowners actively involved in the process. Boutin notes that their engagement made the final result deeply personal, reflecting their tastes in every detail. The design avoids a curated look, instead adopting an organic evolution that feels uniquely theirs.

The result isn’t just a renovation; it’s a reflection of the family’s lifestyle, where every room tells its own story while contributing to the whole.
