Luxury apartment in Muscat showcases bold design

In the heart of Muscat, Oman, a 190-square-metre apartment showcases quiet luxury and bold design. Designed by Kate Kerdi Interiors, this contemporary home proves that a restrained palette can still make a memorable statement.

The living, dining, and kitchen areas flow together effortlessly, creating a space designed for both relaxed daily living and entertaining. Kate Kerdi, originally from Latvia, has lived and worked across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, experiences that have shaped her approach to shaping interiors.

As part of a newly built development, the apartment offered a rare opportunity to begin with a completely blank canvas. Rather than filling the space with decorative excess, Kerdi focused on creating visual contrast through texture, proportion, and carefully placed moments of colour.

A striking burgundy marble island with an integrated dining table anchors the kitchen, turning the heart of the home into a bold yet elegant gathering space. Soft beige walls and natural finishes establish a calm backdrop, while burgundy and caramel accents introduce warmth and character throughout the home.

Materiality sits at the heart of this project. Locally sourced Omani marble appears as both a functional and sculptural feature, most notably in the dramatic kitchen island that anchors the open-plan living space. Sculptural seating and tactile finishes introduce depth and character while maintaining the home’s refined atmosphere.

Velvet upholstery, timber detailing, and textured finishes soften the stone, ultimately creating a home that feels tactile as well as sophisticated. The surrounding environment also informed the design, with sandy-toned walls subtly echoing the desert beyond.

In the middle of this design process, it’s clear that Kerdi has achieved a balance between international inspiration and local connection, creating a space that feels both globally aware and deeply rooted in its location.

A serene bedroom layered with soft textures, natural tones, and bespoke detailing creates a restful retreat within the Muscat apartment. Understated elegance defines the bedroom, where carefully selected materials and a restrained palette bring warmth and calm to the private space.

An integrated dining table extends directly from the marble island, turning the kitchen into the social heart of the home. Bespoke craftsmanship plays a defining role in the apartment’s identity, with around 95% of the furniture custom designed and produced locally.

Standout elements include sculptural checker-pattern armchairs upholstered in custom fabric and a statement sofa inspired by the refined elegance of classic luxury design, reimagined for a contemporary setting. Every detail has been carefully considered, resulting in an interior that balances bold gestures with quiet restraint.

The bespoke closet combines streamlined storage with refined detailing, reflecting the home’s emphasis on craftsmanship and functionality. With one spacious bedroom and a flowing communal living area, the apartment is simple yet full of personality, much like a well-crafted investment piece that only improves with time.

The apartment’s design is a result of Kerdi‘s experiences and her ability to create a balance between different styles. They have successfully created a space that is both elegant and functional, making it perfect for daily living and entertaining. For those looking to create a similar atmosphere in their own homes, considering the services of an electrician can be beneficial in ensuring that the lighting and other electrical components are properly installed and maintained.
