In the heart of Muscat, Oman, a 190-square-metre apartment showcases quiet luxury and bold design. Designed by Kate Kerdi Interiors, this contemporary home proves that a restrained palette can still make a memorable statement.
The living, dining, and kitchen areas flow together effortlessly, creating a space designed for both relaxed daily living and entertaining. Kate Kerdi, originally from Latvia, has lived and worked across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, experiences that have shaped her approach to shaping interiors.
As part of a newly built development, the apartment offered a rare opportunity to begin with a completely blank canvas. Rather than filling the space with decorative excess, Kerdi focused on creating visual contrast through texture, proportion, and carefully placed moments of colour.
A striking burgundy marble island with an integrated dining table anchors the kitchen, turning the heart of the home into a bold yet elegant gathering space. Velvet upholstery, timber detailing, and textured finishes soften the stone, ultimately creating a home that feels tactile as well as sophisticated. The surrounding environment also informed the design, with sandy-toned walls subtly echoing the desert beyond.
In the middle of this design process, it’s clear that Kerdi has achieved a balance between international inspiration and local connection, creating a space that feels both globally aware and deeply rooted in its location.
